What Is Saju (Four Pillars of Destiny)?

Saju — literally "four pillars" — is a system of East Asian astrology built from the year, month, day and hour of your birth. Each pillar is written with a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch, and together the four pillars form a map of your natural tendencies, strengths and life rhythm. It is one of the oldest and most respected fortune-telling traditions in Korea and China.

In the Saju tradition the year of birth belongs to one of twelve animals, each with its own character:
